Hollyburn Properties Donates 1500 Pounds of Food for Spring HOPE Food Drive

Vancouver, BC, May 8th, 2013 – Hollyburn Properties joined the pioneers of BC’s first annual Spring HOPE Food Drive in collecting 5,645 pounds of food: a resounding success. Altogether, 145 buildings in Metro Vancouver participated in the Spring HOPE (Housing Owners and People Everywhere) Food Drive, 47 of which are owned and managed by Hollyburn Properties. Representing the largest property management company in Vancouver with over 4,500 residents, Hollyburn saw this event as a positive opportunity to give back to the community, and the response was overwhelming. Over 1,800 items and 1,500 pounds of donations later, Hollyburn’s residents generously contributed 27% of the total haul! An honourable mention goes to Bellevue Tower West Van, which singlehandedly collected over 300 items and several hundred dollars in cash for the drive.

The Spring HOPE Food Drive is a one-day, two and a half hour event which involves an army of volunteers conducting food drives in apartment buildings throughout the province. While people tend to be very generous with charitable donations during the Christmas holiday season, by early spring of each year, food bank shelves are often bare. This time of year is often when food banks have the greatest need. Multi-family buildings are not typically targeted during food drives and this unique opportunity united property managers, landlords, tenants and community volunteers in solidarity of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. Proceeds were distributed amongst the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, Mustard Seed food Bank (Victoria), Loaves and Fishes Food Bank (Nanaimo), Surrey Food Bank, South Delta Food Bank, Share Community Food Bank and White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank

Spring HOPE 2013 was led by a partnership between BCAOMA, the Rental Owners and Managers Society of BC and various food banks including the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. Originating in Ontario 11 years ago, Spring HOPE has grown into the largest door-to-door food drive across the country. Hollyburn Properties is looking forward to hosting and participating in the Toronto Spring HOPE event on April 23, 2013, to show the support of our industry, re-affirm our community commitment and most importantly: to fill those shelves.
